Unidentified photographer noted on the image: "Nervous depositors waited in line for their savings at Bank of Commerce's "run" of Jan. 1933 - Memphis."

Crowd lined up outside the Bank of Commerce and Trust on 2nd Street, Memphis, Tennessee in January 1933, attempting to withdraw their savings. During the Great Depression this action became known as a "run on the bank" when the public no longer trusted banks to remain in business and safeguard their money.
