Description
Stereograph card titled " “135, Visitors on track, Memphis, 1904.”, published by Lynn C. Skeels, 807 Fine Arts Building, Chicago. The photograph shows a flower bed in a lawn in the foreground, and people standing and in buggies behind a wooden fence at a horse racing track with a building and water tower to the left. The track in Memphis, Tennessee, is unidentified. There were a number of horse racing tracks in the city in this period including Montgomery Park and Billings Park. Racing ceased in 1906 when the Tennessee Legislature outlawed gambling.
